Montefiore Dentistry Kossuth Ave – Specialized Care

Montefiore Dentistry Kossuth Ave – Our General Dentistry program provides a broad range of services, but for highly specialized needs, the department focuses on the following distinct subdivisions:

  • Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery: More than just tooth extractions, this specialty concentrates on treating infections and dental and jawbone conditions and disorders. We also perform complex procedures such as bone grafts, cleft lip and palate repair, post-traumatic jaw reconstruction, and repair of facial bone deformities (in conjunction with our Orthodontic, Craniofacial, and Plastic Surgery Departments). If a patient has lost a tooth or multiple teeth, we can replace them with dental implants, which are an affordable and attractive alternative to removable dentures and bridges. Plus they look, feel, and function like natural teeth, so there’s no need to be bashful when it comes to a wide smile!
  • Orthodontics: While this field is most commonly associated with children and braces, our experts also work in conjunction with other departments within the medical center to correct abnormalities of the jaws and facial skeleton. Through the use of implant and prosthetics, we offer esthetic and functional changes for our adult patients as well. Additionally, we perform numerous familial studies to determine the nature of certain developmental disorders and effect change by orthopedic growth modification.
  • Pediatric Dentistry: Our Pediatric Dentists are committed to providing the highest level of care to the oral health needs of infants, children, and adolescents. Because their behavior, growth, and development are quite different from adults, children require unique treatment methods to avoid future dental problems. Our steadfast focus on prevention, early detection, and proper treatment of dental disease ï¾– as well as our highly specialized training, enables us to treat all children, including those with complex dental issues and special health care needs. Plus our child-friendly environment and communication style help kids feel good about visiting the dentist and caring for their teeth.
  • Prosthodontics: Also known as Reconstructive Dentistry, Prosthodontics involves the replacement and restoration of teeth lost or damaged due to age or disease. Our specialists prepare bridges, dentures, crowns, and caps (laminates), and provide oral prostheses to correct defects caused by surgery and to assist those with respiratory problems and sleep apnea.

Excellence in Research – Montefiore Dentistry Kossuth Ave

Montefiore Dentistry Kossuth Ave – Our team participates in a variety of research projects to expand the reaches of current knowledge and techniques in all areas of modern dentistry. Among the many exciting developments, the Department of Dentistry, Montefiore Dentistry Kossuth Ave, is testing and investigating a human bone morphogenetic protein-2/absorbable collagen sponge developed by Genetics Institute for patients who have lost bone in the back (maxillary sinus) of their upper jaw. This unique absorbable collegen sponge (ACS) made from cow tendons acts as a carrier to supply the protein to the area of desired bone growth. The carrier is absorbed, meaning it will slowly and safely dissolve in the body. Studies in humans and animals with this particular protein have shown great strides with bone growth.

Additionally, Montefiore Dentistry Kossuth Ave, clinical studies continue with the use of endosteal implants that are placed directly into the bone to provide an anchor for one or more artificial teeth to replace ones that have been lost. We continue to explore a variety of unique implant designs and advance the positive psychological impact of immediate tooth replacement.

Another area of concentration is a joint research effort between the Department of Orthodontics and the Center for Craniofacial Disorders. Our objectives are to:

  • Incorporate the comprehensive database of all craniofacial patients with the departmental computerized charts to expand communication between clinicians and expedite data retrieval.
  • Conduct a descriptive study of patientsï¾’ characteristics (i.e. anatomy, type and location of clefts, feeding status, etc.).
  • Collect and analyze data from orthodontics, oral, maxillofacial and plastic surgery, as well as pediatric neurosurgery and speech pathology.
  • Evaluate the long-term impact on maxillofacial growth and speech treatment techniques.
  • Identify risk factors and promote behavioral and health topics as they relate to craniofacial anomaly prevention in the New York Metropolitan area.

I didn’t know it could be this bad. An ordeal from hell. I am giving one star because Nelly and the front desk, Edith in billing, and the overall pleasant attitude of an over worked, ill-equipped, “not ready for patient care” staff. I really can’t stress how great Nelly and Edith have been, but they can only do so much to make up for the substandard care. My initial couple of appointments gave me hope, that was snatched swiftly and at a horrible cost. I am typing this with shards of remaining tooth or bone scraping my tongue constantly from 15 extractions of teeth, healthy teeth, due to bone loss. This was 11 weeks ago and still, no replacements. Today they decided the shards need to be removed. But they are too busy. Come back another day. What does that mean?!?!?! I am suffering, where is the compassion? The professionalism? But hey, it’s interns practicing on poor people like guinea pigs, honing their skills to go to private practice after butchering the under class. So uncomfortable. So disappointed.

Someone reviewed htat the place looks disgusting..It does NOT. I’ve been going to this location for a few years and it’s nice and clean. It sounds as if this person is just made because they couldn’t be seen.lol

Terrible service; don’t even bother making an appointment – mine was for 10:30am and I waited 2 1/2 hours for a basic cleaning. Some of that while standing because the waiting room is so crowded. The receptionist said that’s normal so bring your own chair if you can’t avoid coming here.

I left without being seen due to the wait so I can’t comment on the service.

I went in for a dental emergency after calling ahead. They did not take me, saying they only take walkins before 11am. They sent me away in pain with no referral for another dentist. Probably for the best since the place looks disgusting.

After being in pain allllllllllllllllll New Year’s Eve weekend, like excruciating pain – I decided to go to the nearest dental clinic. My molar was cracked and had enough of trying to score an appointment with insurance guzzlers in Manhattan (who would have attempted to break up my treatment into 3/4 separate visits, NOT happening)

So I arrived at around 9am, thinking I was early lorrrrrrdt was I wrong, the room was filled honey. They had two lines “save the tooth, or pull the tooth”…I attempted to save the tooth, but after the X-rays it was best to just pull it! The guy at the reception desk was nice, took my insurance info, and kept me informed about everything related to the visit.

I was first called in around 9:45 ish for x rays…(sweet older lady, she was so pleasant)
I forgot the name of the dentist who assessed me, (young AA woman) at around 10:50 because honestly I was just ready to have the teeth pulled. But she was thorough, swift, and communicated my dental needs in a way that made sense! She scheduled me to see an oral surgeon at 1:30 that same day. Talk about a wait, but I wasn’t leaving until it was out.

Dr. Claire Leewing and her fav assistant was a heaven sent! She went over the procedures, the dos, the dont’s, very thorough. Almost bit her once lol but I blame it on the little sliding thing that’s used to prop your mouth open. What felt like eternity (def like 15-20 mins) my molar and wisdom was extracted. Gauze was in, and I was out.
Discomfort for day one, but I’ll tell you something was done correct…because I didn’t need to even use ANY of the medication prescribed for pain.

Wanted to provide a thorough review, because I thank them for seeing me same day, no appointment after a holiday, and promptly.

I have yet to be asked for a payment from my insurance…maybe they’ll cover it. If it’s over $1,000, 000 they might lose a star or two hahaha jk.
