Havanese Breeders in California

This small dog breed, which has been bred for over 300 years in the laps of luxury, is bred by a large number of reputable breeders in California. However, not all puppy breeders are created equal, and we discovered several puppy mills and backyard breeders who are most likely not breeding healthy dogs. We’ve compiled a list of the top six Havanese breeders in California to help you find your next puppy. We always recommend contacting a breeder, visiting their facility, verifying their health tests, and conducting your own research before putting a deposit down on a puppy.

Cornerstone Kennels

Cornerstone Kennels is located in Northern California’s Sacramento Valley.

Cornerstone has been dedicated to raising beautiful, healthy, happy AKC puppies for people to love as members of their families since 1985. We specialize in the Bichon family of dogs, which we consider to be among the best of all breeds.

By carefully selecting our parent dogs, we aim to produce puppies that are a compliment to their breed. We are able to make the important decisions required for such selection by keeping their conformation and temperament standards in mind as some of our top priorities, in addition to pre-breeding health screening. We only place our puppies in approved homes.

Although it is a joy to spend time with our dogs and puppies, to witness the wonders of these beautiful little lives from the start, so much of our reward comes from knowing that the puppies we produce will bloom and grow in the hearts of those whose lives they touch. It brings me great joy to receive letters, cards, phone calls, and pictures from families who have adopted one or more of our puppies. We are always grateful to be remembered and to receive such thoughtful updates about our children. Hearing about our babies is unquestionably one of the highlights of our job!

We have a small kennel with large, comfortable indoor/outdoor runs that are nicely heated and cooled for our dogs. In turn, all of our dogs spend time with us in the house. Our puppies are born and raised in our home, where they interact with family and friends. They have had all of their shots and wormings, as well as a little training and a lot of love, by the time they leave us. We are confident that our puppies will be a welcome addition to any family and offer a written guarantee on each of our puppies.

Nevena Havanese

We are in Southern California, North San Diego County, halfway between Escondido and Temecula, right off Interstate I-15 and State Route 76, 48 miles from downtown San Diego, 100 miles from downtown Los Angeles, and approximately one hour drive from most cities in Orange County.

Formerly located in Las Vegas, Nevada

We strive to breed for health and temperament first and foremost, with a focus on breed standard in mind.
We only breed extensively health tested Havanese dogs that have passed all of the Havanese Club Of America’s health testing requirements. Our lovely, healthy Havanese puppies are descended from AKC champion lines. Their colors are chocolate parti and black parti, which are both rare and beautiful.
Puppies in solid white, brindle, and sable parti Havanese are occasionally available.

Our Havanese dogs are AKC registered. They have been health tested for congenital diseases and are CERF, OFA, and CHIC certified. It is critical that we bring healthy Havanese puppies into the world. In general, the Havanese breed is a healthy, long-living breed. When compared to other breeds, there are very few health issues. We want to keep the breed alive and well. That is why responsible Havanese breeders screen their Havanese dogs for potential problems and breed only Havanese dogs that have passed all of the Havanese Club of America’s health tests and have never produced a puppy with a health problem.

Our Havanese dogs are CERF’d for heritable cataracts on an annual basis, which means that their eyes are examined by a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist and registered with the Canine Eye Registry Foundation (CERF) at Purdue University. They are checked for patella luxation (kneecap sleeping) and certified normal by OFA (Orthopedic Foundation for Animals). Our Havanese dogs have also been BAER tested and found to have normal hearing in both ears. They had their cardio exams performed by a cardiologist and were certified normal by OFA. At two years, we have their hips x-rayed to check for hip and elbow dysplasia. We also have preliminary hip and elbow x-rays done to determine hip status early on. Our Havanese dogs also have a bile acid test to rule out liver disease, as well as a yearly complete wellness exam that includes Urinalisys and Blood Work (Superchemistry Panel – CHEM27, Complete Blood Count – CBC and thyroid-T4). Because everyone deserves a healthy puppy, we health screen our breeding Havanese dogs. We do everything possible to ensure that you receive a healthy Havanese puppy who will be your companion for many years.
To ensure breed vigor, fertility, and overall health, we only breed unrelated dogs.

Our Havanese puppies are raised in our family room, where they receive a lot of love and attention.

We believe that the best life for our Havanese puppies is with people who will love and cherish them. Our Havanese puppies are not considered show or pet quality. They are all of “outstanding” quality, bred for good health and a sweet temperament. We prefer to place our Havanese puppies as family members in loving forever pet homes.

It is critical to match the right puppy with the right family. The Havanese breed has a long lifespan. After all, your puppy will be a member of your family for approximately 15 years. We are extremely picky about the homes in which our puppies are placed. Havanese dogs dislike being left alone and should live in a home where they will receive plenty of attention.

We offer a generous puppy starter package that includes everything you need, such as a Havanese book, a sales contract with a health guarantee, a blanket that smells like mommy, a toy, premium dry kibble, treats, and so on. Our puppies are adored and will only be placed as family members in loving homes.

Havanese are wonderful little dogs. They are small but robust without being delicate, loving and affectionate without being yappy. Havanese dogs have a beautiful, profuse double silk coat that is non-shedding, hypoallergenic, and free of doggy odor. They have hair rather than fur, so they are odorless. Havanese are wonderful companions and family pets with cheerful dispositions. These little dogs are perceptive and quick to grasp what is expected of them. They have a charming and endearing personality. Children and other pets are adored by Havanese dogs. They, like most small terriers, are extremely intelligent and have the terrier’s hardy stamina. Havanese Dogs are similar to Golden Retrievers, but smaller and non-shedding! They are very eager to please. Havanese puppies are inquisitive, busy, and sometimes fearless, making them excellent traveling companions. They have an alert and lively expression that tells you they are aware of everything that is going on around them. These little friends grow up to be devoted members of the family into which they are adopted. Havanese dogs have been known to heroically guard small children, and tales of them doing everything from herding ducks to performing circus acts have been told. They are endearing natural clowns. Havanese dogs make excellent watchdogs because they are friendly but discriminating. The beauty of the Havanese breed is enhanced by a dense coat that ranges from straight to curly, with the wavy coat being preferred. The coat is available in a variety of colors and color combinations to suit everyone’s preferences!
