Medical Aid patients
Medical Aid patients are to familiarise themselves with their medical scheme’s/insurer’s benefits and available funds before admission. Patients are to provide the confirmation/pre-authorisation number obtained from their scheme on their pre-admission form. The account remains the patient’s responsibility and is payable within 30 days of discharge.
Private paying patients:
A pre-payment covering the estimated cost of the procedure/service is required on admission. Should the account exceed this amount, the patient may be required to make further interim payments. The estimated amount is not a quote as there are variables that may influence the final amount. Every effort will be made to finalise the account on discharge. A waiting period of 30 to 60 minutes may be expected. If discharge takes place over a weekend or after hours, the final account will be posted to the guarantor of the account on the next working day. The account is payable upon receipt. If the deposit exceeds the final billed account, a refund will be issued to the patient from Head Office in Stellenbosch within 25 days of discharge, depending on the method of payment.

A medical emergency means someone’s life is in danger and they require immediate medical attention.
- In case of an emergency, take a deep breath and calm down.
- Call ER24 on 084 124.
- Tell the call taker that there is an emergency and you require assistance.
- Give a brief overview of what type of emergency you are dealing with (i.e. person fell down the stairs, someone not breathing, a motor vehicle collision, etc.)
- Provide the call taker with your name and your contact number. Should the line be dropped, the call taker will need a way to call you back.
- Provide the call taker with the exact location of the emergency. Provide a closest cross street or landmark where possible.
- You can now provide more detail on the patient’s current condition or the emergency.
- Follow all of the call taker’s instructions carefully. You may request telephonic first aid.
- Stay on the line until the call taker ends the call.
Visiting Hours – Constantiaberg Medi Clinic
Visits from family and friends are an important part of the recovery process and Mediclinic makes every effort to accommodate visitors. Flexible visiting hours apply (09:00 – 20:00), with a resting period between 13:00-15:00, but there may be times when visitors cannot be accommodated. Please enquire at the nurses’ station to confirm if a patient is able to receive visitors. Visitors may be asked to leave the bedside when procedures are carried out in the unit; we appreciate your understanding in this regard.
We ask that visitors respect other patients in the room and restrict the number of individuals visiting to three per bed in general wards, two per bed in critical care units and one person can accompany a patient admitted for a day procedure in the Day ward.
Silent hospitals promote healing. We ask that you put your mobile on silent while on hospital premises, keep volume to a minimum and that any accompanying children are well supervised.
