Chris Rock, Who Is Vaccinated, Says He Has Covid
Chris Rock announced to his social media followers on Sunday that he is sick with Covid-19 after contracting the virus through a breakthrough infection, and he urged people to get vaccinated.
In May, the 56-year-old comedian and actor appeared on “The Tonight Show,” where he told host Jimmy Fallon that he couldn’t wait to get vaccinated. “I’m two-shots Rock,” he explained before clarifying that he received a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
He joked that he would have shoved his coworkers aside to get the vaccine. “I made use of my celebrity, Jimmy,” Mr. Rock explained. “I didn’t mind. I was like, ‘Hey, Betty White, step aside.'”
Mr. Rock did not elaborate on his symptoms, but his infection was a breakthrough case, which means he contracted Covid despite being fully immunized.
There is still a lot we don’t know about new infections. However, with the extremely transmissible Delta variant now accounting for more than 99 percent of all coronavirus cases in the United States, the number of reported breakthrough cases is increasing. Nonetheless, because vaccines have been shown to protect against severe illness, they rarely result in hospitalization or death.
According to a recent Kaiser Family Foundation analysis of state-reported data, more than nine out of ten Covid-19 cases that resulted in hospitalization and death occurred among people who were not fully vaccinated.
